Stuck in neutral...

I don't want to complain, but my weight loss plan is stuck in neutral.  I'm bouncing back and forth (195, 194, 195, 194) and what I want to see on the scale is 193, 192, 190, 189.

So I'm going to pay more attention to what I'm eating, and dial in an evening walk, and see where that gets me.

If you're curious, you'll see my daily weight posting on the right.  That's my source of discipline.

For those who are following this, Richard is now decisively in the lead.

I'll admit that I was staring at your 194 earlier, then I went over to Richard's 193. You are shaming me to respond. I was going to do a post about this so you have to wait for my thoughts . . .

I'm glad you are in "neutral", I was afraid you would reach the finish line before me, AND you came from a farther distance.

Oh Oh, I should have looked first. It was 194 earlier, and NOW it's 195.

Oh, thank you . . . I can eat tonight after all

A couple of pounds is not decisive as it is only 1%. Still managing to follow my new rules (minimal meat, minimal dairy, no refined sugars, no bread, one serving of fruit per day, minimal starchy or sugary vegetables, lots of other vegetables, lots of water, no soft drinks including diet drinks. Carb goal < 100g/day). Most of the fruit and vegetables are consumed as juice first thing in the morning. Rarely hungry anymore. Still regularly making dinner for the rest of the family but rarely nibble beyond checking seasonings...

Black coffee and tea is back in the mix.

I hope the "stuck in neutral" feeling passes.

Good onya anyway! I joined a gym about 6 months ago and dropped 8-10kg in probably 3 months or so. Then it kinda stopped dropping for a bit (I was still getting fitter though) and has only really started coming off me again recently. A lotta hard work but I'm kinda enjoying it...kinda...

Bob, I have thrown exercise into the mix. 55 minute walks in the underground city, with lots of stairs. It's possible I'm adding some muscle but still losing fat.

Difficult to say.

Here's hoping we all meet our goals.

Richard, your diet is more disciplined. I only cut out carbs (potatoes, pasta, bread, sugar, rice, sweet vegetables (carrots, beets, corn, etc.)).

I think I'll cut back on fat and see how that goes.

Andrew, thanks for the encouraging words. My goal is about 14 kilos. I tried a gym membership last year and my life is doesn't lend itself to it. I don't get home until 7:30 on average, then grab a bite to eat, and by the time the kitchen chores are done, all Susan and I want to do is relax in front of the TV. Sad, but true.

The pounds seem to come off easy at the beginning and get harder as you get closer to your goal. Keep at it.

We cut out any kind of soft drinks years ago and that was a big thing for us. Also eating after dinner. I think that makes a difference too.

I weigh less than I did 20 years ago when Brad and I met, but I'd still like to lose another 10 lbs. There are always a few more, aren't there?

Sounds like you are keeping at it and that is important, so good for you!!

Brandy thanks for the encouragement. I don't have what it takes to tackle a vegan lifestyle like you and Brad and Sonja. I'm a confirmed and committed meatatarian.

My life goal now is to get to 180 and then manage my weight to that it's always in the 180 to 185 range.

We'll see if I can get that to work for me.

See, you learn something new every day. Today a new word, "Meatatarian", I like it

It seems easy to manage the 180-185 range. I have done this for many years now. I was up to around 212 lb at my high and I really felt uncomfortable.

Just think how much faster you can go on your scooter, not counting the aerodynamic benefits

Just need to be careful of "low fat" versions of some processed food. They substitute sugar for the oil. In many cases, you may have been better off not getting the "low fat" versions.

Hi David ,
It's now becoming the first thing I glance at ... Then I flick to Richards.... It's spectator addictive!
I'm not joining in though I LIKE FOOD!!
Nice to check-in David , all the best mate.
Kind regards LEN

Richard I agree, processed foods are a problem on so many levels, fat, sugar and salt being the prime vilains.

I am consuming virtually no processed foods. Today I have greens and smoked salmon for lunch. I suppose the smoked salmon is a mixed bag of good, and bad, with the bad on the salt side, and who knows what else.

Just checking in to check your weight status.

the date is revised but it's still stuck at 194, or did you forget to change it ?

Len, it's like a side show to the Olympics. Maybe they could make shrinking a summer Olympic event. Then the pros (America's biggest loser et al) would raise a stink and want to horn in on the amateurs like Richard and I, they'd sit on us if we put up a fuss, and then we'd have no hope of medalling.

David Masse said...

No Bob, you're quite safe. I'm up a pound.

My attitude is good though, I'm hopeful. It's just my scale messing with me.

You didn't hack into my electronic scale, by any chance? Like the Russian janitors cranking up the heat on the luge run.

Ooops! Watch out Bob, I may be dropping like a stone (pardon the pun, Brits!).

David:

what does weekend excess :( mean ?

Richard is down to 191, and I am up half a pound to 184

Bob, weekend excess happens at a nice Portuguese restaurant when you are starving, and the waiter brings a basket of glorious Portuguese rolls and butter. Those rolls are light, impossibly airy, with a delicious crust, and they beg for a pat of butter. What could I do? Then the mixed grill I ordered came with... heavenly home made fries. The kicker was, of course, the Natas. If you don't know, don't ask, they will bring any dieter to his or her knees.

It's OK, I'm back on track. Sometimes a deviation is necessary to re-build the resolve.

David:

I just googled "portugese natas" and they look like chinese custard cups. I can't stop eating those either. I also like those raisin cup cakes but they are very filling.

also I am a sucker for crusty bread, soft in the centre, rolls with many pats of butter.

I would also be full after the above, but then you ate the "MIXED GRILL" too ?

My scale will not go below 183.5

Bob, you're such a gentleman. I just know you'll time it so we both hit the magic 180 at roughly the same time.
