Italian icons

Picture this. We are strolling back to the Hotel Rex on via Torino, after a truly great meal at Ristorante Life on via Della Vite to celebrate our last night in Rome, and our 37th wedding anniversary that will officially occur on the 23rd, we come across this iconic duo a block or so past the Trevi Fountain.

What a nice find to cap a magic evening enjoying each other, a delicious meal, a wonderful bottle of rosé, and snapping self-photos like a couple of teenagers at the fountain.

Possibly, just possibly, among the top ten evenings in our lives together.

Ah!  Truly a slice of la dolce vita.

Everything about that picture says Italy. Nice catch, and enjoy your time in Rome.

Bella, bella!

When I was 10 years old I stood in front of the Trevi fountain and tossed in a coin, wishing to one day return to Rome, one of the most fascinating cities in Europe.

Now you're there! Are there still a zillion cats running throughout the coliseum?

Did you toss in your coin?

Enjoy!

I'm more curious how you survived 37 years of marriage? Cograts to you both.

Thanks Dave! But now we're home, jet-lagged, and happy.

Deb, no we didn't toss a coin in the Trevi. I think we only had Euros.

Yes there are still feral cats in the Colosseum, and feral dogs in the ruins of Pompeii. Had a tour of the Colosseum and the surrounding Roman ruins led by a historian who works at Colosseum that was the highlight of our vacation. She managed to breath life into the ruins. Simply amazing.

Thanks Sonja. Have you been reunited with your bikes? I'll check your blog.

Rob, I guess it's the law of averages. Not everything has gone well, or ever easily, but our marriage is like that cinque cento. Vintage, still beautiful, and running on all cylinders.

I've seen those tiny Fiats at car shows occasionally in the USA. But until I saw them in their natural habitat in Italy I didn't really appreciate them. It's sort of like they have to be in context before their significance takes on meaning.

Paul, the original Fiat 500 really is special. Like the original Austin mini, or the Citroën 2CV. If I were wealthy, I'd have all three of those cars.
