Light, space, pixels, paper, steel :art:

I received a very nice message from Adrian Saker wondering if I would mention 1903 Magazine here.

1903 is a magazine with shared print and online versions devoted to Harley Davidsons. As you know, I am not a Harley guy, but I am a rider, and I have had the pleasure of joy riding on a Harley last winter in the Florida Everglades. There's that, and the fact that a rider, is a rider, is a rider.

1903 Magazine is one place where riding, Harley Davidsons, and art, yes true art, intersect. 1903 is just gorgeous to look at, a real feast for the eyes and the mind. Beautifully written prose coupled with images that are clearly expressions of great talent.

I don't think that Adrian picked me at random. Judging by the quality of 1903, I somehow think that there is a relation to Iron & Air, another stunning magazine devoted to riding, in the case of Iron & Air, devoted to custom bikes. I have Dom to thank for introducing me to Iron & Air.

The emergence of these highly specialized boutique print magazines with graphics and prose to rival, perhaps surpass, the very best magazines like National Geographic, Vogue, and Condé Nast Traveler, is a little like the surprising resurgence of vinyl recordings and analog high fidelity audio. Digital hasn't extinguished analog, any more than the car made horseback riding extinct. Analog photography anyone?

Who says blogging is time wasted? I say it's time well-wasted, and this is evidence that it's not all about intangible rewards.

The introducing pages reminded me of Iceland, and what can I say, there were beautiful pics inside taken indeed on Iceland. Definitely nicely photographed.

This magazine is definitely a work of art.

That rig is easy on the eyes, but looks like it was designed for a royal monkey, and a hard-assed rider.
