Time to breathe

A lot of things are happening in our lives.  Our eldest son's wedding will take place in August.  My current job will cease at the end of June.  I'm learning to ride a large motorcycle that I am simultaneously equipping for serious touring.  If that's not enough, we are planning to sell our house, pack up our things and move to Toronto.

It's a series of transitions that is a lot to handle, and it can take a toll.

Yesterday I needed some perspective.  I needed to shift the scene, alter the pace, find a comfortable space, familiar, yet fresh and different.

My Vespa remains equal parts transport for the body, and transport for the soul.

I'm now refreshed, ready for another challenge today, that, hopefully, will cast the next year or so into a favorable environment for some of these large shifts and changes.

Wow! Lots for changes in your world as well as mine!

May we come out the other end happier and settled by autumn!

What kind of motorcycle are you gettng?

Holy, that's a lot of stuff happening. All good, change is good. Happy to hear about the wedding, and glad that you put in your notice. I always think of retirement as the ultimate freedom (and I hope it will be for you, too).
Toronto, while not equipped with the flair of Montreal is a place of food and culture, too. Good luck with all these new endeavours. You know what to do, when a break from all these tasks is needed.

Lots of activity, lots of changes. Congrats on your upcoming retirement. I was asked today if I have any regrets and, so far, not the slightest. What prompted the move?

Deb, from your lips to God's ears! I heartily join you in that simple wish.

As for the motorcycle, it's a 2003 Honda Shadow VT750 ACE. There are a couple of posts on the bike, and a bunch more to come as I chronicle the farkles that are in the process of being added.

The bike is co-owned by Sonja and I. There will be a lot of coverage to come on our blogs.

Stay tuned :)

That's great advice Sonja.

It's feeling pretty awesome already.

Richard it was a kind of sudden cluster of events that caused me to bring things to a head resulting in a severance deal. Kind of like the theory of tearing a bandaid off in one quick rip.

Transportation for body AND soul. Boy, ain't that the truth.

Do you know if Toronto has all sorts of culinary adventures in store for a foodie like you?

Wow, that is a lot going on at once. I hope you will enjoy Toronto as much as you have Montreal. While I've been to Montreal, I've never been to Toronto. Think of all the coffee shops you can scooter to.

David, that is a lot of stuff to handle at once. I am in a similar boat, with our house finally looking like it is going to sell, with closing in a month. We are looking at apartments now for a year's worth of living until we determine what we want to do. There are other life pieces that are changing as well, so I feel your pain. But you have the same freshener that I do, a scooter to take you away for a few moments and make everything manageable again.

Great. So if we make to Quebec Ville this summer, as I hope, on the way back we have no one to take us to a shady cafe in Montreal and discuss the delights of bi-lingualism. It's all about you isn't it?

Good luck on managing the chaos. I don't envy you!
