Kickin' it nu skool

What do you when you've reached the end of the road, you've pitched your tent, inflated your mattress, laid out your sleeping bag, stowed your gear, made a mug of instant joe with your ultralight alcohol stove, and locked up the bike?

You break out your barkalounger, put your feet up, sip your java, share some tall tales, and in the words of Mark Twain, tell a few stretchers.

I can do that now.

Looks quite comfy. I am waiting now for the tales from the bonfire.

David,
At our recent BMW Rally camp chairs came up and I was demonstrating my 2-leg Monarch chair. One of the guys walked me over to his tent and pulled out his 'quick' chair and though dark, I'm guessing it was just like yours. Was yours from the 3 letter "R" company? How do you like yours? I tried his in some very soft ground and had trouble.

Coop, it's an Alite Mantis chair, the top of their line. REI sells either a knock-off, or similar model.

A little pricey, but very comfortable.

Yup, those legs will sink in sand or soft ground. They have another model, slightly cheaper, that has a bar front and back instead of feet that would sink less.

I discussed that with the person who helped when I bought it yesterday. I also bought a camp towel. She suggested that the camp towel under the legs would do the trick on sand.

I already travel with a flattened Coke can for my centre stand. I'm planning to flatten a few more and throw them in the top case for the chair. That should do the trick.

Sitting in that chair on a beach with a beer and riding buddies, I think a little sinkage won't dampen my mood :)

There were 4 of us there and we seemed to agree that a couple of smashed cans would take care of it. We were in a spot that should have been reasonably hard but with all of our spring moisture, even that was soft.

The first thing that everyone unpacks at a BMW rally is a Kermit Chair. For multiple reasons, I had to go with something else. The big advantage of mine is (or was) packed size.

Coop, if moto camping became a regular thing, I'd go woth the Kermit chair too. I've never seen or sat in one, but their reputation is amazing.

Sonja, rest assured that every mile, and every minute of that trip will be GoPro'ed, photographed, blogged about, and commented on to death!

No Monarch chair? How are you supposed to fall over if you have all four legs?

We opted for the two legged Monarch from REI and really like them. As long as you aren't trying to balance too much (like a plate of food) when you sit down you're good.

I have the same Monarch Alite chair as the Trobairitz's, purchased from REI. Same as yours but with No Legs. I like the idea that you can "rock" back and forth on it.

The only problem is getting in and out.
